The several scenes of people up to their necks in water that recur in the Vietnam war film, Apocalypse Now, fascinated me as a metaphor for the moral and political mire of that conflict. In this collage the theme is retooled into an environmental scenario of two figures in quicksand contemplating a wasted landscape.
