Choosing a drink from shelves of mass produced products in a denatured sunless environment such as a mall is an experience that is probably not worth thinking about. Yet this familiar action reveals much about the repetitiveness (echoed in the floor tiles, windows and fluoro lights) of the modern consumer life and the built environment in which it takes place. The dummies, which these days have become a ubiquitous feature of shopping mall walkways, are like a mute testament to the the gratification that a leisure activity like shopping is fulfilling.
