It was the calculated architectural motifs of the angles of the picnic table and its shadow, the plinth like concrete slab, and their interplay with the gabled roofed, barrack like building in the background that provided the impetus for this picture. The graphic clarity of the forms, the sharp clear light and the compliant role that the vegetation plays in the composition, make it appear almost like a classical Japanese print.
