The airline travel bag with its implication of mobility, the decor of rice paper lampshade and the abstract painting on the wall recall the trendy accoutrements of another era. The glasses the men wear suggests they are intellectuals and one mans hair or brain even morphs with the shapes on the canvas while the stylishly dressed woman listens to their conversation. The 'formal' part of the title can be read ambiguously and ironically as a reference to formalist painting and the 'hit' part as what junkies expect from their dope.
